James 2:14-17 reads “What good is it, my brothers and sisters, if someone claims to have faith but has no deeds? Can such faith save them? Suppose a brother or a sister is without clothes and daily food. If one of you says to them, “Go in peace; keep warm and well fed,” but does nothing about their physical needs, what good is it? In the same way, faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead.”
Anyone can say they believe in God. It is once you act in faith that belief is proven and demonstrated.
John 8:31-32 says, “To the Jews who had believed him, Jesus said, “If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples. Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”
I can say I’m going to finally stick to my diet, or I can say I am going to be faithful to my wife and my marriage and stop the extra marital affair. I can say I am going start budgeting my finances so I wont have to live paycheck to paycheck or I am going to spend more quality time with my kids and my family. None of what I say matters until I actually take the first step and act on my words. So to believe in Jesus is to obey his teaching.
1 John 2:3-6 reads, “We know that we have come to know him if we keep his commands. Whoever says, “I know him,” but does not do what he commands is a liar, and the truth is not in that person. But if anyone obeys his word, love for God is truly made complete in them. This is how we know we are in him: Whoever claims to live in him must live as Jesus did.”
So what are the teachings and commands of Jesus? To start we must first understand who Jesus is and understand the full meaning of the Gospel. Click here to read more.
